New Funding Model at Canada Council for the Arts (CCA)

On June 3rd, the Canada Council announced further details about its new funding model, due to take effect in 2017.
You can go to the Council’s New Funding Model page to view the announcement. If you don’t have time to watch all the videos, there’s a text transcript here and a two-page summary of the six new programs here.

To coordinate the media arts sector’s response to the Council’s new model, IMAA has been circulating the New_funding_model_IMAA_Letter_EN_01 sent to Council in March, as well as an abridged New_funding_model_IMAA_Letter_EN_2_pages of the same letter. These letters summarize the questions and concerns of the media arts sector and the larger artistic community.

Following this announcement, a series of community meetings were organized and coordinated across the country to discuss the impact of the new model on our sector. These meetings have been organized by the media arts and artist-run communities in several cities (Vancouver, Winnipeg, Calgary, Montréal and Victoria). IMAA is monitoring the reactions gathered at these and other meetings and will continue to advocate actively on behalf of our sector as the new model takes form.
