About the School of Critical + Creative Studies at ACAD
Faculty members in SCCS represent a broad range of academic specializations. SCCS faculty members thrive on the creative environment at ACAD and are actively engaged in creative practice and academic research.
Students in the School of Critical and Creative Studies examine historical, critical, and methodological perspectives on the study of art and design. Students gain context for creative work in contemporary society, and are supported in becoming confident art and design practitioners.
SCCS programs offer courses in the following areas: Art History and Visual Culture, English Literature and Creative Writing, Humanities and Cultural Studies, Material Culture and Cultural Anthropology, Natural Sciences, and Professional Practices.

The Position

The School of Critical and Creative Studies invites applications for a permanent position with a specialization in the History and Theory of Narrative in and across multiple media, in fields including Design Theory, Visual Culture, Film and Media Studies, Gaming Studies, Cultural Anthropology, and Literature. Familiarity with the history and theory of narrative analysis and criticism across a range of media, (whether visual, material, digital, ludic, spatial, transmedia, hypertext, haptic, social media storytelling, etc.) is essential, and the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the applicability of transmedia studies to the fields of Fine Arts and / or Communications Design.
Responsibilities include:
Teaching introductory and advanced courses at the undergraduate and, if applicable, graduate levels, developing undergraduate and graduate curriculum, an active research practice, mentoring students, School and College committee work, and participating in academic governance.
The successful candidate will have:
A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field. Advanced PhD students (ABD) with a relevant specialization may also be considered. All applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and have at least three years of significant teaching experience at the post-secondary level, along with evidence of an active research practice. Applicants must possess an interest in working in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment with faculty from studio-based programs, and have the desire and ability to engage with students in the context of studio-based art and design programs.
Assignment of rank will be commensurate with educational credentials, teaching and professional experience, as well as the candidate’s record of research, and creative activities.
