JOB CALL – Project Manager – Internships and Mentorships, IMAA (Ext.Deadline: October 11, 2022)

The Independent Media Arts Alliance (IMAA) is a member-driven non-profit national organisation working to advance and strengthen the media arts community in Canada.  Representing over 100 independent film, video, audio, and new media production, distribution, and exhibition organisations in all parts of the country, the IMAA serves over 16,000 independent media artists and cultural workers.

Beginning in fall 2020, IMAA added a new project to its activities: the delivery of youth employment internships focused on digital skills and training, supported by the Government of Canada through its Digital Skills for Youth Program. To ensure the success of this activity, we are currently recruiting for the newly created position of Program Manager: Youth Training and Internships.

About the position:

Reporting to the National Director with the support of IMAA staff, the Program Manager: Internships and Mentorships will ensure the successful delivery of a youth employment program involving an estimated 30 participants across the country. This individual will ensure the successful delivery of youth internship employment grants as part of the federal Digital Skills for Youth (DS4Y) program. They will be responsible for liaising with IMAA’s network, managing the program, recruiting and onboarding employers, administering contracts and providing timely and accurate reporting to funders. They will also be responsible for overseeing a new branch of the DS4Y program funding digital-skill based artistic residencies.   

Specifically, the Program Manager will: 

  • Design and implement a national, bilingual communications strategy to promote these internship opportunities
  • Answer questions from potential employers about the program and application process
  • Manage the application process for one program intake (fall 2022), ensuring a transparent and equitable selection process
  • Manage relationships with employer partners, funding bodies, and other stakeholders throughout the course of the program
  • Continue to refine an evaluation framework for the project, collecting data on impact and benefits
  • Meet reporting responsibilities to a federal funding agency and other funders
  • Provide sound management of the project, ensuring that all aspects delivered on time and within budgets

Deliverables:

  • Successful completion of one cycle of internships (2022-2023), including recruitment, intake, signing of contracts and monitoring of project results and impact.
  • Project budget projection, updates and reconciliation
  • Completion of all required reporting to funding agency(ies)

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or college equivalent in communications, arts administration or liberal arts
  • At least two years’ experience managing complex projects with multiple partners and stakeholders, especially related to internships, mentorships, job training or skills development
  • Well-organised and meticulous in creating and managing efficient workflows and systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills supported by diplomacy, tact and equanimity
  • A first-hand understanding of the needs and realities of not-for-profit and small for-profit employers in the arts and culture sectors 
  • Proficiency with standard office and project management tools (spreadsheets, critical paths / gantt charts, cloud-based collaborative tools, video teleconferencing)
  • Experience managing large, complex budgets and cashflow projections
  • Experience working within anti-oppression and equity frameworks
  • Strong communication skills and experience with remote work and project management
  • Multilingualism an asset, English will be the primary language of project work

Terms:

  • Term of the contract: October  2022 until June 2023.
  • 35 hours per week
  • Rate of pay: $25 – $27 per hour, depending on level of experience. 
  • The Program Manager will be hired as a contract employee, reporting to IMAA’s National Director with support from the IMAA team.
  • IMAA’s National Office is located in Montréal, but applicants across Canada will be considered. The IMAA team works remotely with occasional in person meetings. The successful candidate may be required to travel as part of their functions.
