Online Media Arts Presentation Standards

Publications, resources and tools to guide and support the presentation of media arts online.

IMAA Fee Schedule

The IMAA Fee Schedule recommends fees for screenings and audio presentations, exhibitions, professional fees, educational use of media art works, and print reproduction of film/video stills in both in-person and online contexts.

Minimum Copyright and Professional Fees Schedules (CARFAC/RAAV)

These schedules are intended as information sources for visual and media artists as well as for the diverse users of their art works. Their aim is to help artists improve their annual income through reasonable payments of their royalties and professional fees by institutions, businesses or individuals using their works or retaining their services. The rates presented in these schedules are minimums.

Contract Templates for Artists (CQAM)

The Conseil québécois en arts médiatiques (CQAM), in collaboration with consultant Georges Azzaria and a committee of artists in digital arts, have developed a series of contract templates for use by the media arts community.

International Residencies for Media Artists (IMAA)

The websites listed in this resource share numerous international artist residencies. Artists can find out about application details, deadlines and subscribe to mailing lists that regularly update new residency opportunities. This resource was compiled by IMAA in February 2017.

Media Arts Fee Schedule (CQAM)

After multiple consultations spanning over more than a year with a committee composed of artist centres, distributors and artists, a Media Arts Fee Schedule was established to guide artists, curators and organizations in minimum fee recommendations. This was following a request made by the community at the Conseil québécois en arts médiatiques’ conference in 2012.

Caring for Video Art: Best Practices Guide (Vtape) 3

This guide was developed by Vtape as a tool for organizations to develop best practices that will assist in documentation and inventory, the creation of suitable storage environments, as well as the handling and maintenance of their video art. The techniques and processes discussed in this guide are for video works created and found on magnetic videotape formats such as ½˝ open-reel, ¾˝ Umatic, VHS, Betacam SP, MiniDV and Digital Betacam.

Think Before You Appropriate: A guide for creators and designers 1

People and cultures have always exchanged and borrowed ideas from each other to create new forms of art and symbolic expression. Whether intentionally or not, most if not all human creations reflect varied sources of inspiration. Why, then, are some products negatively labelled “cultural appropriation” or their creators accused of disrespecting the very cultures they found inspiring? And why do products inspired from Indigenous cultural heritage seem to spark particularly strong reactions and pushback? This guide, developed by The Intellectual Property Issues in Cultural Heritage (IPinCH), unpacks these important questions. It provides advice to designers and marketers on why and how to avoid misappropriation, and underlines the mutual benefits of responsible collaborations with Indigenous artists and communities.
